We use black beans a lot. Whether we're making our favorite Southwest Chicken Chili, tacos, or soup, they're a staple in our house! In fact, before we got brave and started making them on our own, we'd always have a stock pile of canned black beans in the pantry at all times. Now, we've replaced the stock pile in the pantry with Ziploc bags of them in the freezer, ha.

If you're like me and use black beans in a variety of your recipes, I highly recommend making them in the Instant Pot! Not only does it end up saving you a bunch of money over time, but it's SO easy! Seriously, it beats making them on the stove or even in the Crock Pot. With the stove, I always have to keep an eye on them to ensure the water doesn't boil over. With the crock pot...well, who has time for that?!?!

With the Instant Pot, you've got freshly cooked black beans in less than an hour from start to finish! It only requires 24 minutes cook time, then add on 15 minutes or so to let it naturally release the pressure. It's so much more convenient to turn it on and walk away, knowing you've got several meals worth of beans ready by the time you're done watching the latest episode of This is Us...

While there's a variety of spices and seasonings you can add to the beans, it's not necessary. We'll sometimes add garlic, bay leaves, and onion to our beans, but not always. With this most recent batch, I didn't add anything. I was going for quick so it was as simple as beans, salt, and water!

This is all you need, but you can always get creative and add more for extra flavor...

Just sort the 1 lb of beans for any possible debris and dump them in...

Add 7 cups of water and 1 tsp of salt...

I just eye the salt, so I may have put a little more than 1 tsp, but whatever works...

After the pressure has been released, this is what you'll have...

Now, have fun figuring out all the delicious recipes you'll be making with your black beans! I put two servings in the freezer for future meals and the rest went in our favorite Southwest Chicken Chili...
